Privacy & Your Data

A personal AI assistant only works if you can tell it personal things. Carae is built as a private AI assistant from the ground up: GDPR-compliant, EU-hosted, and designed so your data works for you and no one else.

Where your data lives

Everything is hosted on servers in the EU. Your messages and memories are encrypted at rest with per-user keys, and integration credentials are encrypted the same way.

No one at Carae can read your messages or memories. Staff have no access to the production database, and internal admin tools only ever show counts and account status, never content. To answer you, Carae's services decrypt your messages in memory and process them with AI providers under data processing agreements; this is strong encryption at rest with strict access control, not end-to-end encryption, and the Privacy Policy spells out exactly how it works.

Export your data

Your data is yours to take:

  • Dashboard: Settings, then Privacy, then "Request data export". Works for every channel.
  • Telegram shortcut: send /mydata and Carae exports your messages and memories directly in chat.
  • On WhatsApp: use the dashboard; there is no in-chat export command there.

Delete your account

Also yours, no questions asked:

  • Dashboard: Settings, then Privacy, then delete your account (you type DELETE to confirm).
  • From chat: send /forgetme on Telegram or WhatsApp and Carae links you to the same Settings page. Deletion itself always happens in the dashboard, never in chat.

Deletion removes your messages, memories, integration tokens and skill configurations within 24 hours.

How long things are kept

Carae keeps chat messages for up to 90 days: older messages are deleted once their key details have been saved to your long-term memories, with your most recent conversation always kept so it can follow the thread. The authoritative retention table lives in the Privacy Policy.

The point of all this

You should be able to tell your assistant "my daughter's school pickup moved to 2pm on Fridays" without wondering who else can see it. That is the standard this page exists to meet.
